Summer Institute season is here!

Summer Institute season is here! Homegrown reading and writing institutes are dotting the country in school districts near and far. At homegrown institutes, staff developers work with educators in their home districts, traveling to cities including Charleston, SC, Palm Beach, FL, Dallas, TX, Frankfurt, IL, Lakewood, OH, Menlo Park, CA, Houston County, GA and DePew, NY. These institutes range from a core group of 30 to as large as 800—each locally situated and tailored to the specific needs and goals of the hosting district or school. Working with teachers, coaches, and administrators in their home district grants a powerful opportunity to develop professional and collaborative networks that can support the literacy work long after the institutes come to a close.

Here at Teachers College, we’ll host four institutes this summer. Thousands of district representatives, principals, coaches, and teachers from across the country and around the world will join us to learn more about the teaching of reading and writing. Across the summer, we are honored to hear from a spectacular group of keynote speakers, including Carl Anderson, Kylene Beers, Lucy Calkins, Cathy Collins, Joy Cowley, Carmen Agra Deedy, Mary Ehrenworth, James Howe, Ellin Keene, Lester Laminack, Naomi Shihab Nye, and Sarah Weeks.
