Connecticut Intersection between Debate and Essay Institute
This institute will be offered for Grades 3-8 on the intersection between debate and essays. Participants will study protocols for flash-debates, ways to coach students to ‘talk in essay,’ and methods for harnessing talk as a means of raising the level of writing. They’ll also learn to use these techniques to help students with text-based writing, so that students become more adept at supporting claims with evidence from texts.
The Phonics Institute is designed for grades 3-8 educators, classroom teachers, school administrators, and curriculum specialists who are committed to turning classrooms into richly literate reading and writing workshops.
The noncredit registration fee for this institute is $650. This cost does not include meals or housing. You will be notified by e-mail if your application is accepted.
